I fell for the villain.
It happened back when I was a clueless girl.
But he ruthlessly broke my heart and trapped it in a jar.
Since then, I've sworn to hate him to the end of my days.
Eli King might be a savage devil, but I'm out of his way. And league.
That is until I wake up in a hospital and find him holding my hand.
He tells me the words that change my life forever.
"We got married two years ago, Mrs. King."
So I set out to investigate how I landed myself into this marriage.
Turns out, my memories are darker than my present.
I thought I was ready for the hurricane.
I thought I could handle his soulless eyes and cold shoulder.
I thought wrong.
Nothing can stop my husband.
Not the secrets surrounding us.
Not the hatred between us.
Not even me.
I have waiting for Ava and Eli’s book since the Royal Elite epilogue. Admittedly, I thought at that time their story would be a lot different to what God of War actually was but nevertheless they were worth the wait.
Ava King (Née Nash) wakes up to a new reality, one she had never imagined. Her last memory is being involved in a car accident and now she’s two years into the future married to a man she swear she hates but apparently fought with her amazing parents to get married to. Nothing makes sense, least of all her husband.
Eli King, resident sociopath and CEO to not one but two big corporations (King & steel) and now a husband to a wife with no memories of being married. He’s very controlled at the start or at least trying to control his world but Ava challenges that. I think over the course the book he just goes to on to become unhinged not just in thoughts but also actions (which love that for me).
Ava and Eli have an explosive relationship, from the moment they started messing with each other at university by getting rid of each other’s romantic interests to their current relationship as husband and wife. Over the course of the book, we find out what’s really going on with Ava, the relationship between Ava and Eli in the past two years as well the reasons why they got married. This book is definitely under she fell first, he fell harder trope.
I really enjoyed reading Ava and Eli’s story! All the tropes in God of War are my catnip but I went to this a bit apprehensive because high expectations sometimes just end up in the gutter so I’m very happy that this wasn’t the case for God of War.
What I loved:
Ava, I just adored her! She has been struggling from a very young age with her diagnosis, it has made her insecure about her entire existence because she feels her parents lives would have been great without her which is just nonsense because her parents adore her and Cole instead blames himself.
Eli trying his best for Ava, regardless of the fact that she hates him, doesn’t remember their years together or what happens when she goes into fugue stages was just very touching. In the two years of his marriage, he really made his wife and their marriage his whole personality which I loved.
I loved their banter! It’s just fun to read. Ava literally aggravating Eli on purpose with no thoughts to the consequences was also *chef’s kiss*!
What not 5 stars? I really wish Rina had either made god of war into a duology or atleast given us some more chapters/extended epilogue. The duology would have been great because perhaps we could have some more younger and university sabotaging scenes and more importantly the first two years of their marriage. Plus more chapters because after Ava and Eli get back together, its the end so it would have great to see more of them together and happy and then the epilogue. I’m nitpicking but thats because I really enjoyed this one and didn’t want my time with them to end.
Overall, I had a great time reading God of War! Even if you haven’t read any previous books by the author or this series, I personally think it would be fine to read a standalone because other couples have cameos but the book is really focused on them.
